Would You Rather Be Rich Or Financially Comfortable?

I am always reading stories about celebrities that have gone broke after years of earning millions of dollars. It doesn’t matter if they were sports stars, television stars, or stars of the big screen; they all have one theme in common. They often wind up bankrupt due to squandering millions of dollars frivolously. This may have something to do with the fact that they often receive riches in an instant and not over time. The celebrity life is not as easy as you think. There are lots of other things that go along with the fame and fortune.

I am going to present two scenarios and you tell me which one would be your ideal lifestyle.

Case Number 1: Filthy Rich

You would make millions of dollars over the course of your lifetime. You would be able to buy just about anything that you want including homes, cars, clothes, jewelry, and electronics. You could eat at the finest restaurants and enjoy many of the best things in life. Your vacations would be glamorous because you would be able to afford to travel to the Swiss Alps or the islands for vacation whenever you like. Your whole life would be lived in the perpetual limelight.

Wealth would also bring the other trappings of fame and celebrity with it. Your every move would be watched, dissected, and scrutinized. Every article of clothing that you wore would be judged and your every action monitored. This means always having to purchase new clothes, cars, and items. You can’t be seen in the same outfit! You are a celebrity. No more quick runs to the store or the mall to pick up something. Every trip and dash to the store would have to be carefully planned.You would have to make sure that you are looking your best at all times. If not, you will end up on the cover of TMZ or the National Enquirer.

This would be the price for your fortune.

Case Number 2: Financially Comfortable

You would never make millions of dollars in a given year but would make a solid income. Your annual salary would range from $80,000 to $120,000 during your career. You would make enough money to own your home, pay off your cars, put some money away for retirement and to help send your kids to college. You would not be able to buy everything that you wanted but you would be able to meet all of your financial needs.

When you retired, you would live a debt free existence and have enough money to live a comfortable lifestyle. You wouldn’t worry about money as you would have an income steam that takes cares of your living expenses. You would have enough money to live better than the average person but not enough to live like a celebrity.

This may sound like an easy answer but it really is not. I suspect that the answers will likely vary since most people have different goals for their lives. The goals of some individuals are to join the ranks of the super rich. They would like to enjoy the best of everything and be amongst the rich and famous. Other meanwhile may not need all of the excess and would be happy to know that they are able to take care of their basic needs in life.

So, which lifestyle sounds better to you? Do you want the lifestyle of fame and fortune or do you want the existence of anonymity and comfort? Are you looking at building wealth over the long term or would you prefer instant riches? The choice is yours!

5 More Men Who Knew How To Make Money Investing

A few weeks ago I wrote a list about 5 Men Who Knew How To Make Money Investing. I received a few suggestions from all of you about a few more men that should be on the list. So, today I wanted to take the time to look at 5 more people that have been able to make a fortune due to their investing prowess.

Best Investors

John Templeton

John Templeton was not only a great investor buy a big time philanthropist as well. He built a billion dollar empire by being one of the first investors to promote diversified mutual funds. Templeton had a knack for being able to select the right stock at the right time. Money magazine named him the greatest stock picker of the past century. His company Franklin Templeton investments still stands today with its wide array of diversified mutual funds.

Carlos Slim

Carlos Slim has surpassed Bill Gates as the richest man in the world with a net worth of nearly $54 billion dollars. Slim has built much of his fortune through shrewd investments in Latin American companies. The bulk of Slim’s fortune consists of Mexican telecommunication companies including America Movil SAB. Slim had the foresight to invest heavily in mobile communications in Latin America when few investors were doing so.

Whitney Tilson

Whitney Tilson is the epitome of a value investor. Tilson has made a lot of money for himself and his clients by buying distressed companies selling at extremely low valuations. Over the past two years Tilson has made great calls on BP, General Growth Properties, and Wells Fargo. He gobbled up these companies at bargain prices and has made a sizeable profit for his investors.

Charlie Munger

Most people only know Charlie Munger as Warren Buffett’s sidekick. Before Munger joined with Buffett, he ran a very successful investment partnership firm himself that outperformed the Dow by 400%. Munger is also the brains behind Berkshire Hathaway’s Wesco Financial subsidiary. His investment philosophy differs somewhat from Buffett’s in that he has been known to invest heavily in his best ideas. He may place 30 or 40% of his portfolio in one single investment.

Benjamin Graham

Benjamin Graham is a great example for all of the beginners investing. Graham started his investing career on Wall Street at the age of 20 and was made a partner in a Wall Street firm at the age of 25. He started the Graham Newman partnership at the age of 32 and generated a 17% annual return over the next 30 years. Graham is considered one of the fathers of value investing and one of the pioneers of fundamental analysis. His books, The Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis remain investing classics to this day.

How To Make $1,000 A Year Off Of $10,000

Today, I want to take a look at real life examples that will show you how to make $1,000 a year in dividend income off of $10,000. It just requires finding the right mixture of income yielding securities. Here is a portfolio of REIT’s, utilities, energy, and financial stocks that could generate a 10% annual return.

Dividend Income Portfolio

57 shares of VerizonComm. (VZ) @ $35.11 = $2,001.27

70 shares of Hatteras Financial (HTS) @ 28.53 = $1,997.10

474 shares of Chimera Invest (CIM) @ $4.22 = $2,000.28

51 shares of First Energy Corp (FE) @ $39.43 = $2,010.93

105 shares of Triangle Cap (TCAP) @ $18.97 = $1,991.85

Total Cost: $10,001.43

Dividend Income

Verizon dividend = 57 shares x 1.95 = $111.95

Hatteras dividend = 70 shares x 4.00 = $280.00

Chimera dividend – 474 shares x .68 = $322.32

First En. dividend = 51 shares x 2.20 = $112.20

Triangle Cap dividend – 105 shares x 1.68 = $176.40

Total Dividend Income: $1,002.87

Keep in mind that this dividend amount does not take in account reinvested dividends. The actual amount would be much higher if dividends were reinvested. This is just a hypothetical portfolio. It is by no means a recommendation to go buy each of these stocks. I just wanted to illustrate that you could easily earn over 10% on your portfolio in dividend income.

As you can see its easy to make money investing with a consistent dividend income.

New Blogging Jobs Forum

Every so often I like to provide an update as to how my blog is doing. My journey to generate a consistent online income keeps growing. Here are the stats for the past month.

Visitors: 23,000

Pageviews: 45,500

Page Rank: 3 (That hasn’t moved in a year)

Alexa Rank: 60,065 (As long as I stay below 100k I am happy)

Moz Rank: 4.76 (This dropped from 4.79)

Online Earnings: Approximately $4,000 last month

I have started to earn more money via affiliate marketing and product sales. I still have consistent ad income coming in. I have been getting a lot of ad offers so I am considering increasing my monthly rates for new advertisers. I added one new website to my portfolio and wrote a money making ebook. This ebook teaches people how to make $2k a month. I make more than that monthly online but I figured it was a figure that anyone can accomplish. It’s less than $70 bucks a month!

My goal is to increase these stats each month and continue growing Buy Like Buffett. I am going to do a little more featured content writing and focus on building up Mark Riddix dot com. I will be starting on a new ebook soon and hope to have it finished by sometime in March.

I have added another blog to my blog network.My new blog is Credit Repair Pro Guide. On Credit Repair pro Guide, you can find credit repair information, software, and other useful tools that will help you repair your credit. The site is operational as of today.

Why Another Blog

This blog has a ton of resources that will help people looking to repair their credit. There are articles, videos, and credit repair software to help people improve their credit. All of these credit repair services are useful if your credit score has taken a dip.

I plan to monetize this blog via ads and affiliate marketing. As you already know, I think that affiliate marketing is one of many great ways to make money online. This blog should basically run itself. I may have to add a post once a week but most of the money from the blog will help me to generate a passive income stream. My biggest job will be promotion and marketing.

I get quite a few emails asking about credit questions. I want the focus of Buy Like Buffett to remain on investing. This way I will have one blog whose sole purpose is helping people rebuild their credit.

I decided today was as good a time as any to list my complete blog network. I have a lot of blogs that I am running. I mean a lot. Too much for one person in fact. I post regularly on some of the blogs and some of the blogs haven’t received enough of my attention. Here are all of my blogs.

I started way too many blogs. I forgot that one of them existed until yesterday! I started three blogs when I first started blogging because I had no clue which one would be the biggest success. Buy Like Buffett, Sportsfeens, and Fourth Quarter Finish are the 3 oldest. They all have Page Rank which I didn’t even expect because I went months without even posting on one.

Mark Riddix dot com is my newest one and fasting growing one. I started Money & Government and Financial Advice For Athletes early in 2010. There is no way that I can keep up with all of these blogs so I have decided to focus my time on Buy Like Buffett, Mark Riddix dot com, Money & Government, and Sportsfeens. I will build the other 2 blogs up and eventually sell them off.

My Plan For Growth

I feel like the four that I picked have the most potential for growth so I will hold onto them. I finally moved Money & Government over to WordPress from Blogspot 2 weeks ago. I moved Sportsfeens to WordPress just yesterday. I had both blogs on Blogspot because I wasn’t sure of how successful they would be. I host them all on Hostgator. I feel like if I really want them to be successful then I need to self host them.

i have devoted 90% of my time to Buy Like Buffett and the other 10% goes to the other blogs. I am going to increase the percentage of time given to the other blogs so that I can give them the same chance for success. I don’t even count the Adsense revenue from these sites in my online blogging income reports. It has only been a few hundred dollars total

This brings me to my next decision. I am going to finally hire a writer next week. I am going to start with one person who can write 1 post a week. I will see how this goes and then will start to increase the number of articles and number of writers. My plan by the end of the year is to have a fully functional blog network that is bringing in major major.

We will see how that goes. Now off to watch the Ravens win over the Steelers!
