Aflac, GE

Bought 50 more shares of General Electric (GE) at $11.50.

Bought 50 more shares of Aflac (AFL) at $22.

Aflac

Added 300 more shares of Aflac at $24.90. This is higher than my original cost basis but I think the stock could be a bargain. As I stated before the stock has lost roughly half of its value in the last two weeks. Aflac is expected to benefit under a good bank, bad bank scenario.

Purchases

Bought 120 more shares of the Financial Select Spyder(XLF) at $9.17. I know that financials are struggling but I expect the government will come up with a plan to save them. My total shares are now up to about 1120.

Bought 90 more shares of Aflac(AFL) at 22.70.

Aflac Reassures Investors

Aflac(AFL) is up 25% today and the stock has gained $5 a share. Yesterday’s sell off was a bit over done. I figured there wasn’t much downside in buying a quality insurance company with a decent balance sheet whose shares had dropped 40% in 2 days on rumors of potential European investment losses. Aflac probably does have some losses in its investment portfolio but the company states that they will still meet their earnings target. While this market is incredibly volatile, it does provide some opportunities for value investing.

I am still hoping that Manitowoc(MTW) has bottomed. The stock has not dropped below the $6 level amid terrible expectations, downgrades and negative news. Manitowoc will announce earnings next Wednesday and that should give more insight into how the company is holding up.
